Our Dry Ice History
For more than 25 years
The story starts more than 25 years ago. I worked for my father, who was owner of a cleaning company. One day, he got a request from a dairy company to look for a dry cleaning method of their silo's for baby powder. This was around 1990 and we found a way by doing this by using Dry Ice blasting. I'm almost sure we were one of the first Dry Ice cleaning companies in the Netherlands. In order to do this, we had to offer flexibility to clean on demand. Therefore we needed our own Dry Ice production. In that time, the nearest production sites were located in Amsterdam and Rotterdam. It would take hours to get Dry Ice delivered to our site.
In 1998 my wife and me acquired the Dry Ice production facilities and continued that under the name Droogijs Noord Nederland (DNN) under a 10 years license from Böhm & Gottschalk Droogijs b.v. (B&G).
In 2000 we moved to a brand new building specifically build to combine living and working to be close to the production and, at that time, our young children.
We sold the production to B&G in 2007 after we lost some major clients: our biggest customer moved to the UK and two other big customers went bankrupt...
B&G was acquired by Yara in 2008 inclusive the production contract with Cryo Store. We were more or less a part of Yara and we continued producing Dry Ice for Yara until April 2010. For business reasons, Yara decided to stop production and turned DNN into a Dry Ice depot.
In 1999, Cryo Store was established to support storage and distribution of temperature sensitive goods, started more or less from DNN. Cryo Store developed and slowly became a big Dry Ice consumer. When DNN changed from production into a depot, we moved that business to Cryo Store to serve the small volume customers, while the container customers were kept by Yara.
Cryo Store now uses and supplies so much Dry Ice that it was beneficial to have our own production again. August 2019 the first Dry Ice was produced again. A happy feeling.
We also invested in a lot of Dry Ice containers of 3 different volumes. We have 360 kg, 225 kg and 160 kg Dry Ice containers and for lesser volumes we have a lot of different EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) boxes available.
I'm very proud that we have our own production again in the same building that I let built with my wife in 2000 to produce Dry Ice.

Move tank to new location at 2000
We had to move from the Produktiewei 6 at Joure to the Handelswei 1-B in Joure only 500 meter!
Situation in 2000
The situation in 2000 with a old AGA tank.
Situation in 2019
The new situation, with a brand new Nippon gases tank.
2001, purring 3 mm pellets in bags
The old containers are to deep that we used 13 kg bags to get the Dry Ice out of the container. It was also a nice amount for purring it in the hopper of the Dry Ice blasting machine.
IC, our DNN mascotte
IC the polar bear was a story teller and we had this in many different Dry Ice applications. We kept IC for many years at Cryo Store but we get to many questions if we are a toy company. So we said goodbye to this happy friend.
A former truck of DNN
As you can see, we had many different IC pictures.
And the slogan "you see IC you" was also on the back of all vehicles. Many people didn't understand directly and that was just what we wanted.
